For a great day trip while you are staying in Tuscany, the Cinque Terre is a must.
Cinque Terre can be reached by automobile, but the best way is to take the train. If you really don’t want to leave your car, you can drive to La Spezia, park your car for the day and take the train to the Cinque Terre. Parking at the train station can be costly.
Visitors on the Cinque Terre tour can see:
- The Way of Love (Via dell’Amore) — a footpath overlooking the sea that connects the villages of Riomaggiore and Manarola.
- Church of San Francesco, built in the 17th century, is home to many works of art.
- Riomaggiore has wonderful shopping of many locally produced fresh items.
Going to the Cinque Terre is a wonderful experience, but for your first time there it is always good to have someone accompany you who knows the what’s and why’s of how to get around. It can be a little confusing (and at times, very very crowded). An escort is almost a necessity to help you enjoy the area much more.
Allow approximately 2 hours transportation time. You can visit all five villages. Or if this too much in one day, work with your guide to choose the best ones for your experience.
Wear very comfortable walking shoes. Reserve a nice restaurant in one of the many restaurants located there, swim in the sea and enjoy this magic place.
If you’d like help in planning you can contact me for a 30-minute consultation. I can advise you on an excellent itinerary and we will likely have time to discuss other parts of your vacation.
Or hire me as your guide for the entire day and I will craft a one-of-a-kind visit to one of the most popular places on Earth.
